last week was weird. particularly wednesday.
i was going on a very stressful apartment hunt with my future roommate and very close friend adam. seemed like every place we saw in our budget was just wrong, or gross, or wrong and gross. and then on wednesday we saw a place, kinda far from the subway, but wonderful. just about a perfect fit for what we were looking for. three days felt like forever, and then yesterday, we got the keys, and our names are already on the mailbox. very excited.
but also, on wednesday night, i got hit by a car on my walk home. didn’t see it coming, wasn’t drunk, wasn’t listening to music… just a driver not paying attention. i hope that no one ever has to feel that moment of panic that happens when you just get hit and then worry that another car will hit you again and kill you. i imagine if you’ve ever had the misfortune of being mugged at gunpoint, it’s gotta be the same feeling.
luckily, on the upside again, this is the first day since wednesday that i haven’t had a friend at my apartment with me. i’ve had a constant stream of amazing company, e-mails, texts, etc. and a few delicious cupcakes - sometimes from unexpected sources. aside from my parents, i’ve had a mere two family members check to see how i was doing but many, many more great friends - so it’s meant a lot. i was really, really sad to miss a couple shows and a class cause those things are always the best parts of my week, but, shit happens. (UCB, can i get credit for stuff i missed due to a life threatening accident? i have a police report. sigh.)
i know it could’ve been a thousand times worse, so i’m thankful for that. honestly the worst thing is that i can’t work for at least a month, cause all the work i do is on my feet and i can’t do that with a broken fibula. and i have to move from one borough to another. yaaaaaaaaaay no income!
in the meantime, i will be overly connected to tumblr and twitter and facebook to make up for all the time i haven’t been. and probably watching a shit-ton of movies.
p.s. i truly hate asking for anything, but a friend said, “hey, now that you’re going to have to hire help to move, why don’t you ask people to give you a dollar or two via paypal to start a little fund? you could use that more than a cupcake, and maybe it’s easier if someone wants to help but honestly doesn’t have the time to visit. if people are asking, ‘how can i help?’ - that’s how.” and after someone else said the same thing, i realized she was right. so, if you wanna send me a buck via paypal, my email is amy.charowsky[at]gmail.com. i know it may sound silly but everything counts when you can’t bring anything in.
I almost got hit by a car a couple of weeks ago. I only found out about this because healywu reblogged it, saying “Help Amy, she is nice!” She is correct, Amy IS nice.
Help Amy! She is nice.
